Prince is planning on giving his newest album away for free with Daily Mail, record companies and shops are freaking out saying crazy things like
"The Artist Formerly Known as Prince should know that with behaviour like this he will soon be the Artist Formerly Available in Record Stores. And I say that to all the other artists who may be tempted to dally with the Mail on Sunday!" (via boingboing)

Fair play to the little fella, I reckon. Let's face it, he had his big moment in the 80s and 90s, and the chances are a new album would go unnoticed by most. Slap it on the front of a newspaper, and you're back in the headlines and still making a profit. If people like your album, maybe it'll spark a renewed interest in your other stuff. Admittedly it doesn't spell good news for CD shops, but, hell - this is business, you do what you want to do, to make the profit you want to make. That guy who reckoned that their shops had shown support to Prince in the past - guff. They did it because they expected a profit, end of. If the market is changing, then HMV etc. will just have adapt or die.
