Another VIA EPIA CL10000 review. (read mine at epiacenter.com if you want) :)
Mr Bean, depressed because his film didn't make much money in the US and was laughed at by critics. He continues to recover in his mansions in Chelsea and Oxfordshire.

digital cameras. (yes again!) another potentially good camera is the Minolta Dimage E223 from £117 2mp, 3xopt and Video with sound makes it tempting (more info and links), but is it worth the extra £17 (bad reviews of e223) over getting a Fuji A203, A204, a205 which don't have sound and can be bought for £99? Or would it be better to just get an Olympus C-350 (3mp, 3xopt) for the extra money at £139 from amazon.co.uk?

another camera is the Che-ez D'Zign, £79.99 Jacobs, just like a Casio EX-S2 / AGFA / Oregan Scientific (£99 jacobs/gadget shop), 2mp, but the Che-ex apparently does 20cm macro according to the jacobs catalogue.

grrr windows xp is craptastic!. click start, because you want to get to your programs, you have to go to "all programs", ok that's minor, go to control panel, it's got all the different things in different sections, click "switch to classic view" to get the usual view - why not just have this as the default anyway? want to find a file? click start and then search, a stupid dog comes up and says "what do you want to search for? pictures, music or video, documents, etc etc" when I actually just want to search! I don't want a stupid dog coming up and asking me what I want to search for, I just want to search - if I wanted to search for a specific thing such as images, I'd put the .jpg extension! Another thing, they don't have the "My Computer" icon on the desktop as a default - why not?! Grrr - everything they've added to WinXP is just another step in slowing you down when you're trying to use the computer - and yes I know you can customise it so it's just like Win2000 - but I shouldn't have to - I just don't get what Microsoft were thinking when they made Windows XP - they've made it slower and more difficult to use! They even removed the "quicklaunch" thing from the toolbar (yes i know you can turn it on) - but why remove it from being there as default? It makes using the computer easier! //end rant...

no wait - Windows XP and the stupid Activation! Yes I've just changed the motherboard on the computer - what you want me to re-activate windows!!! WHY!?!? Ok, lets try this then, yes I'd like to do it over the internet - oh but wait, windows doesn't let you get to the desktop to configure you network card and internet connection settings - so you can't activate it over the internet, you have to phone up microsoft and tell them or type in a 50-digit long number, and then they'll tell you another 50-digit number you have to type into the computer...! and then if you change some other stuff in the computer again (like the motherboard, because it might have been faulty) you have to go through ALL this again and this time you manage to try and get onto the internet to activate windows, and it pretends to be working, you think great, this'll be easy, but then after it's checked on the internet it says you have to ring someone up!! GRRR Windows XP I hate you!!
thank yous to all those who've sent happy christmas cards, or presents etc.

in the word's of a great philosopher "i am a material girl, living in a material world" Fuji M603 3mp (super ccd), 2x optical (also does VGA (640x480) 30fps movie recording with sound) £199 seems like a very good deal (review), as another camera (Minolta Digame Z1) that does that is £299 (link) - other good deals i've seen: a203 2mp, 3x opt £99 Jessops, a204 2mp, 3x opt £99 dixons - and the A405 2mp, 3xopt which was £99 before christmas from pcworld, is now £149! haven't really seen any other great deals / sales etc. have you? update amazon have the c-350, 3mp, 3x opt for £139 inc vat now the a205 (2mp, 3x opt) is also £99 (review) according to dealtime.co.uk (eg internetcamerasdirect.co.uk) another deal seems to be the Casio QV-R40 4mp, 3x opt £169 dixons. also saw the AGFA S2 2.0MP rrp £99, for £69 in dixons - also on dixons.co.uk (basically the same as a Casio EX-S2 I think - which was £169, and then it vanished, they don't have macro though),

Love Actually what other people said "that was light hearted" - "it was a bit corny" - "they were all so perfect" (the people). my thoughts, yes it was a fairly lighthearted film, with some deeper issues they just sort of skimmed over. it was a bit political too (a fake english prime minister and a fake american president were in it) in a pretty naff way, some bits were funny, some were just a bit too stupid. it was quite predictable. heather thought it was good but a bit rude. there were 2 people in it pretending to be porn stars but it wasn't really that funny. could have been funnier i think.
InfoWorld: Open-source group issues Microsoft patch: December 19, 2003: "An open-source software development group posted a file on its Web site this week it claims will patch a recently disclosed security hole in Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer (IE) Web browser that allows online scam artists to fake Web page addresses."
snake but in 3d, pretty good. remember those sony mavica digital cameras that took a disk!? brilliant but flawed, excellent idea, but the disks didn't fit enough images and the cameras were too big :) expensive at the time, but still available on ebay, and still too expensive, yep, especially compared to a fuji 2600 buy now £86 s/h 2mp,3x opt or a Fuji A405 for £99 new from dixons/pcworld (2mp,3x opt). although an old 1.5mp fuji may be the cheapest way of getting a "proper" digital camera (with CCD rather than CMOS) - currently £21 with 5 hours left, or perhaps an old 2.1mp fuji currently £31 with 12 hours left. or perhaps an MX-1700, 1.5mp, 3x optical currently £37 with 3hrs left... or perhaps a 1.3mp, 3x opt olympus?

Shop for Fuji FinePix A204. at Argos.co.uk £99 on sale, 2mp, 3x optical. so equivelant to the newer A405 from dixons for the same price.

The world's gone mad! postman SUES lecturer for posting TOO MANY letters in a mailbox!. Now what do you think, is this the fault of:

a) the lecturer for putting too many letters in a letterbox
b) the postman for picking up a bag that was too heavy
c) the postal service for having bags that are too large, and expecting post men to pick them up

? hmmm I think it's pretty obvious it's the postal service that's at fault, they shouldn't have such big mailboxes if they don't want their postmen to injure themselves! there's NO rules on a letterbox saying "please don't put too much in me" !!

Hidden Costs of Mac Ownership: "Still, while many of the applications are cost equivalent, Apple users who want to stay current with the latest Mac operating system release have needed to pay $129 on a regular basis. When Apple released version 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3, each one of the releases cost $129. If Mac software can be expensive, or if tech help is costly, Mac users do not seem swayed from their affection"

some more bad pr for apple's ipod's and the faulty batteries.
good stuff about 2003
  1. nelsoncolne, josh for spending so much time finding things to put on it :-)
  2. josh's webserver, /flashcom, webcams, text messages, blogging
  3. flash / shockwave (and beta), simcity is abandonware,
  4. those pictures by that guy : http://www.toothpastefordinner.com | rathergood.com | one word, 60 seconds
  5. computers keep getting bigger (hard drives) faster and cheaper (special mention to toshiba (small hard drives (and even smaller next year)) epia / via (small motherboards)) and quieter and better at using less power.
  6. processors get even more confusing: p4m? amd opteron/athlon 64? ibm g5/970? itanium? All have speeds ranging from 1ghz to just over 2 and perform very well.
  7. anyone just using computers for interesting reasons

Exciting new stuff coming soon:

not so good stuff that happened in 2003 in no particular order
1 microsoft are still one big company with too much power despite losing lots of court cases.
1.1 the virus that created tonnes of work for tech support people and alot of annoyance for average computer users.
1.5 lots of other court cases and patents that restrict the use of really obvious technology, like plugins and erm..
2. Tube crashes, tube strikes, royal mail strike, uk rail travel, power failures.
3. computers don't get any more reliable (your hard drive still dies) (although win xp does have some nice features) (but re-starting and recovering from an unbootable machine seems more difficult) : who are currently the hdd manufactures you rate most? samsung?
4. apple: mac os 10.3 (hello, now no one knows how to use your operating system) mac os X (10.2) (hello, you completely changed how everything works and we can't customise screen fonts or the apple menu) why is the Close button right next to the Maximize button / why is apple w (close window) next to apple q (quit), apple designed laptops (just plain do not last), apple lies (the fastest what for maybe a day, when for the last 2-3 years you've just been telling us that mhz don't matter)
5. mobile phones (inconsistent / illogical user interfaces, poor software, unreliable stuff 'given' to me, really poor support contracts)
5.5 what, it's over? my birthday was just the other day. scary.
just missed out: ebay (fees high, buyers/bidders poor, no customer support)

Review of MUSH (on boringworld.co.uk) "It's not in widescreen, and the sound levels are a bit low, if you don't have amplified speakers, but it is quite high quality compared to your average divx stuff. The mash music was cool, if a little short, probably the highlight, as well as the cat, that cat was cool. It's only 9.05 minutes long but seems longer. it does feature live maggots, i won't spoil what happens to them, and yes you probably should ring the RSPCA about it. There is quite a bit of product placement in the form of PG adverts, i don't know how much PG are paying them, but I'm not sure it was worth it. They tried to gross us out, but they didn't go far enough, there was no eating of maggots shown or drinking of urine. It also features "Hilter" so if you're not that keen on him, you might want to avoid it, it wasn't as amusing as the Hilter featured in Little Nicky."
Found these 2 bits of music on a program (PC), so recorded them to wav and made em into mp3's. sorry about the distortion. but they reminded me of a) c64/ST type chip music, and b) ST/amiga mod's so check em out:

did i mention that i find the www.royalmail.com website to be the most annoying website i have encountered all year. did i mention that i have found it to be very annoying on two separate occasions this week? Still waiting for login to work to check a postcode.. royalmail sucks dot com.
More annoying than the odeon. (the odeon will claim they have tickets available online and then not sell you that ticket for love actually, thank you very much)
More annoying than microwarehouse's new website, more annoying than the pcworld.co.uk website, more annoying than the HP website (maybe)
.. still wating for royalmail to log in.. this page cannot be displayed - our servers cannot handle more than one request per year.

Win 98 Users should upgrade says study.
The largest potential risk to corporations is the probability of an Internet-based security exploit being discovered after January 2004 that can affect a Win9X PC.
Typically, security exploits due to a code issue within the Operating System and/or the Internet Browser are reviewed and remedied by Microsoft via their monthly hotfix releases. After January 2004, Microsoft is no longer obligated to supply any security based Hotfixes for Windows 98 users.
Thus, Windows 98 users become increasingly prone to any new security exploits, as security patches may not be supplied. Virus authors & hackers will certainly view any Windows 98 PC as a more vulnerable entry-point into the network infrastructure, being able to exploit security holes that have been subsequently patched on PCs with Windows 2000, Windows XP, etc.
As time progresses and the number of security exploits increases any Internet-facing Windows 98 PC increases its vulnerability and opportunity - to attack.

After that the analysis goes into reasons why its a good idea for microsoft to stop supporting old software..
And then says that about 30% of machines are running win 95/98 with more 95 machines than 98.
So if you were a systems administrator with 100 pcs and you needed to upgrade them all to windows 2000 or XP..
1. Why would your company pay for all those licences when their machines 'already work', and pay you to spend the next 3 - 6 months updating machines applying patches ...
2. Wouldn't you have to reinstall all the software too after doing the os upgrade.. how long would it take per machine?

Lindows.com Defends Netherlands Resellers against Microsoft :: osViews :: Tech Opinions for the People, by the People "Microsoft, the world's largest software company, is systematically threatening small Dutch computer companies with lawsuits for offering an alternative product to Microsoft. Their threats are intended to intimidate these small companies, who cannot afford attorneys, into dropping alternative products and leaving Dutch computer users with only the option of purchasing expensive Microsoft software." Microsoft are nasty! Grrr!
Dennis publishing - I officially hate your guts :)

Last time I subscribed to MacUser, then cancelled the subscribtion, I made sure I ticked all of the boxes to say I did not want any mail from any other companies, yet as soon as I had cancelled my subscription, I started recieving junk mail from other companies. I phoned them, and they said the list was from Dennis publishing, I phoned Dennis publishing, and they removed me from the list ! Hoorah!

More recently I subscribed to MacUser (again) for 3 months, making sure I ticked all the boxes that said I didn't want mail from other companies, after 3 months I cancelled the subscription, then about a month or 2 later I got some junk mail from Sky, and some today from MacWarehouse... So I phoned sky, they didn't know where the address came from (!!?!), I phoned MacWarehouse, they said they've recently bought a few lists... So I phoned Dennis publishing and spoke to Jackie (who I spoke to last time this happened) and she said she'd remove me from the lists... I should have asked why I was on the lists, but from these 2 experiences I assume they automatically add you to the lists when you stop subscribing to them...

Updated If you had 150 to spend on a digital camera, what would you get? Must have macro mode, and 3MP, 3X Optical would be good. Image quality is the most important thing though. (sound would be nice, but in this price range i don't think you'll find it... eg SONY P-72 is about 175 minimum)

Thinking the Olympus C-350 / D-560 Review (to americans) would be a good one, only 152 from amazon (with free delivery). Other alternate's are Fuji A303 (159). Dunno what else for that price... found this new camera, 3mp, 4x optical, video and sound, 1.8" tft, macro Kodak DX6340 159 inc postage amazon what do you think?
mini film recommendations / reviews: hot chick comedy, with "rob schnieder" - the guy that's always in adam sandler filums. he get's swapped into a girls body, and a girl gets swapped into his body. it also stars a girl that's in scary movie 3. it had me LAUGHING A LOT, very very very funny. RECOMMENDED.

dumb and dumberer comedy "prequil" to the original dumb and dumber. does not star the original actors. it's VERY funny, about them at school and has loads of cool stuff (like a mini school bus). RECOMMENDED!

Elf christmas comedy romantic thing. a human lives with elves then goes to find his real parents. quite a good film, bits of it are funny, and it's quite a nice film. Santa's in it.

Well, incase anyone's interested, i've setup php on my webserver. php.php is the info page if you wanna have a look. havva look if you want there's nothing to see yet, as i haven't got "gallery" working / configured yet as i'm having problems... but if you've got any bright ideas, please let me know :) UPDATE! AHA! I've got it working check it out! - If you wanna know what it does, you basically upload your pics, it automatically resizes them and creates all the web pages for it, you just add comments, and click rotate where necessary, it is SOOO good!! PS - You can not beat a bit of Messiah, "Thunderdome", and "There is no law" :) And if you can beat it, I'd like to know how, yes perhaps with some stakker humanoid remixes, but really, now you're just getting pedantic :)

Release all EPIA motherboards into Distribution Petition In more crazy news, there's a petition for VIA to release the EPIA boards that normally only get released to big companies. There's a project here where the guy uses a peltier, and water cooling, to cool an epia800. This things can be passively cooled with just a normal big heatsink, so I really wonder why they did this? this guy want's more innovation in the pc sector.

mini racing game, remember duckhunt? this used to come with the light gun that you could get for the sega master system. war on terror a bit like that helicoptor game, but crapper (harder too) and slightly comical. atomic badger racing (use space bar for nitro and mouse button for bombs)

However, they're not selling the approximately one million songs on the archive. (recorded by over 250,000 artists) Instead, they're simply destroying it as of December 3. MP3.com's founder and former CEO, Michael Robertson, is pleading with Vivendi to allow the Internet Archive to preserve the songs."

00Apple - iMac New 20" iMAC!! 1749. (imac 15" from 999!!!) They still haven't realised the way to shift millions of iMacs is to get rid of the screen and sell them for less than the emac (649), eg 499 would be a very good price for an entry level basic mac. they've released a dual 1.8GHz G5 as well (1899)

For those weirdo people out there who like to own rare apple stuff (namely matt) there's a rare 20th anniversary mac on ebay currently lots of money (361) - more info. (personally i'd prefer one of these for much cheaper, or one of these MUCH cheaper.)

Updated my "IPEA Project" - mounted the switch and blue hard drive LED! It's also become my webserver! as it's small :) check it out at http://joshwaller.tk - it seems slightly faster - what do you reckon?

Chucking out some old computers the other day, we found a 386! with this "FPU chip" (Cyrix Fasmath Cx83D87-40GP from Nov 91/or 93 more info, better info?) add-on!! Looks like it was originally a bog-standard intel 386 40mhz computer, without the FPU, then later they may have added this chip to it... but what I want to know is: How could people have used computers so slow?!? I just don't get how it could be possible!
Wired News: Mac Supercomputer Joins Elite - Mac Supercomputer officially the 3rd fastest supercomputer, with 1,100 Dual 2GHz G5s. AMD at 6th place, with 1,408 Dual 2GHz Opterons.

Brazil moves to open source, "Citing economic as well as social reasons, Brazil's government is opting to move away from Windows, opting instead for Open Source (read: Linux) solutions. Interestingly, Microsoft's representative in Brazil decries this as a movement away from freedom and choice..." Hmmm Microsoft are weirdos! IBM also moving away from Windows.

clmbine upd8 (chainmail version): Darrell Scott, a parent of one of the teens shot in the columbine killings..
There is a spiritual awakening-taking place that will not be squelched! We do not need more religion. We do not need more million dollar church buildings built while people with basic needs are being ignored. We do need a change of heart and a humble acknowledgment that this nation was founded on the principle of simple trust in God! reference columbine info from salon

There's been this ongoing argument about whether you can have a monument of the 10 commandments in a court building: Alabama Supreme Court's chief justice, Roy Moore Moore said "It's about whether or not you can acknowledge God as a source of our law and our liberty. That's all I've done."

The Matrix III, Cons, boring predictable, could have written better dialogue myself, some lines were so obvious as to be funny, actually I laughed quite alot, sometimes on the inside, some times not. Oh was it not supposed to be a comedy, ahhh ok si-fi. Pros some good effects, better than The Matrix II more sifi.

Get out and see it.

Mac OS X 10.3 Panther - Page 3 - (11/2003): "Panther comes on four CDs: three discs for installing the OS and one disc containing the developer tools." crikey, that's a big install package.

Mac OS X 10.3 Panther - Page 5 - (11/2003): "But 'perceived performance' is where Mac OS X has always suffered. As far as the user experience is concerned, if it 'feels slow,' it is slow. Panther has improved here as well. I am hard-pressed to find any part of the user interface that does not feel noticeably faster in Panther than it does in Jaguar."

AppleInsider - Panther videos holy cow, check out the 3rd video on this page. WOW!
still on my never-ending quest to cure my dandruff and eyebrow dandruff, i've bought some "selsun" from the local asda pharmacy. i've figured that (in my opinion) t-gel, head & shoulders, vosene, and even nizoral does not work. the only problem with the selsun stuff, is that apparently selsun blue does work, but i don't have selsun blue, i've got just "selsun" and it's sort of creamy beige coloured, and it smells nice and washes my hair well, but i need to blue smelly stuff that doesn't wash hair well. and a new thing i've discovered, if i leave my beard / stuble to grow into a proper beard for too long, i end up with beard dandruff!! man! it just gets worse and worse!
tried to make site more "washed-out" / old faulty monitor (amber) ish looking. it's still too bright and contrasty :) and could probably do with some kind of background image that looks like those faulty lines you sometimes get on faulty monitors. edit ooh - found a really cool colour scheme website.
Mini Film Reviews: (available from your local blockbuster on dvd/vid)

"igby goes down" tragic "comedy". about a rich teenage american with a messed up family and his sucky life. fairly dull, not much empathy, or character sympathy, not hilariously funny, a bit sad. it's sort of like a "black comedy" but nowhere near as good as other films.

"hope springs" romantic comedy. british chap goes to america to get away from his fiance who's just dumped him for another man. quite funny, entertaining, quite good overall.

"a guy thing" comedy romance. guy has a bachelor party (stag do), sleeps with another woman (not his fiance). very funny film, with quite a lot of LOLs. Yes some bits are slightly predictable (aren't all films) but it's funny, and nice. recommended. (ps - some / well one of the deleted scenes is absolutely hilarious!!)

there's a new version of winamp out, called winamp 5. someone obviously forgot how to count. but someone said it was winamp 2 + 3, dunno, anyway, why do they run 2 versions of winamp simultaneously? (it's proper messed up i tell ya, winamp 2.91 is newer than winamp 3!) get winamp5 here. winamp 2 is better than winamp 3, so i wonder whether winamp5 fixes that.

Pifast Challenge 2.9GHz Athlon 64, beats a 4.8GHz P4. what does this mean? well it means, if we round the figures, the Athlon 64 beats the P4, even when the P4 is 2GHz faster than the Athlon 64! It also tells us that some people out there have some REDICULOUSLY fast PCS!!

ExcelStor Technology on the warranty page say "Warranty is typically voided on defective drives under the following conditions:" one of them being "8. Normal wear and tear" HUH!?! Am I interpreting this the wrong way, or are they saying: By using your hard drive, under normal use, you are voiding your warranty? If it goes faulty, under normal use, then your warranty is voided?

why bother putting a hard drive in your pc? when you can boot knoppix and run it from a cd, it included WINE and Openoffice, and can see your current hard drive so you should be able to use your windows apps in it too. you may be pleased to know that they're developing a free frontpage and dreamweaver replacement for linux. wahey!

dan's data thinks selling free review items has dodgy moral implications involved. what are your thoughts? is it okay to sell brand new item that you've got free to review, if not, is it okay to upgrade your pc with the review item and then sell the old item that you've replaced with the free review item? how is getting a free review item different to getting a gift from your aunt that you don't want or need and then selling that, to make some money, to buy something that you do want or need?
Selling some dodgy graphics cards wonder whether the working one will sell for more than the falty ones or vice versa.

flying cat : catfan.wmv [372k] OH MY!!!
someone else thinks apple should release a small "shuttle" like cheap consumer mac without the screen. i'm sure i've said this before myself, but i don't know where. what they fail to mention in that article is the price difference of the iMac and iBook - when the iBook is cheaper than an iMac - why would people buy an iMac?
Got this in an email (requires shockwave, requires sound).
does this mean i'm finally famous? when people use my pictures in their ebay auctions? (the board with cuppa tea at bottom).

fun with 5Kb.
do the bbc ever proof read the stuff they put on their website? "This is intended to provide four billion times four billion times four billion as many as currently exist." in this article, and the introduction text for that article was "A shortage of internet addresses has prompted researchers to come up way of generating billions more." depending on how you do "billions" but, if you currently have 4 billion ip addresses, and you're going to have 64 billion with IPv6, then that's 16 times as many as 4 billion. It's just simple maths, it's not exactly rocket science! And since when has IPv6 been something new! I learnt about it 2 or 3 years ago!

And while we're on the subject, I'm sick of seeing this image:
stupid bbc news website uses this image every time they talk about spam!
They use it EVERY single time they write an article about spam, such as this one, or this one, or this one, or this one, and on, and on, and ariston, etc, etc, ETC!!! (none of these articles are repeats! yet they all have the same chuffin image!!!) admittedly, for a bit of variety, they did use a twisted image of email here and some other previous one's have used other images, but man alive what is with them using the same image ALL THE TIME!!!?!!

i don't know how cheap this is, seems very cheap to me: a 15" centrino 1.3ghz laptop, with DVD-writer/CD-writer combo thing from Dixons for 998 ! Sounds pretty much like a bargain to me. considering that a dvd-writer on it's own (eg a slot loading one that you can get from hoojum.com) cost's 200 itself, it does seem like a good deal.

apple getting way too much press. On google news they've got the top 3 headlines in sci/tech. one for destroying the market for custom built supercomputers (by letting anyone buy a bunch of standard machines), one for having some white g4 laptops. and one more for itunes having bugs that need fixing.
Apple seem to have produced a complete "web to playback-device" delivery mechanism that the record companies think is secure enough that it won't damage sales. relevant business model discussion here

Well, I won an auction for a dual slot 1 motherboard here - woohoo! - anyone heard of it? I want to know if it'll take 100mhz slot 1 CPUs, some old dual slot 1 boards are 66mhz only! (such as this good looking one with dual p2-300s here, and this one which also looks very good (p2-300 x 2 + 192mb ram), although this one is 100mhz inc p2-400)

Sooner than we think, if the current leaders in the industry are to survive, we will need to move away from OS vs. OS, and we need to make convergence real. All software needs to run on ANY OS
macnet2 has some interesting stuff to say about apple, including his thoughts that Apple are developing OS X on x86 side by side with developing it on the G5...

the vulcan mini pc looks much like the Atari portfolio but it runs Windows XP / Office and has a colour screen etc. the tiqit looks more like a "supervision" / palm thing. and here's a pic of a very dusty PC. oh, and apparently hell froze over, so I don't know what that means for everybody down there, or how it effects us when we're going round saying people have to choose between hell and heaven, especially now that hell's a giant ice rink. perhaps i should get a hot dog stand license and sell them down there to all the olympic skaters?
is anybody out there? reply if you are still alive. ps - there's a pic here of a dual VIA C3 board using those tiny new CPU's they've made!.

i thought this was funny cartoon song video thing made me laugh out loud at bits.
awesome strongbad's deleted, and duck pond which you can play at the end - there's also an atari 2600 version if you feed the ducks enough. in fact there's a cool site here with details about all the strongbads and the hidden stuff in them.

Cheap ebay stuff anyone? anyone? other ebay cheap stuff: pentium pro 200 / motherboard / 128mb ram currently 3, dual p2-300, 192mb, agp - currently 1 *, dual p2-266, 256mb currently 1 *, dual slot 1 board, 10 *, or dual slot 1 5 *, another one slot 1 5 with p2-400 * oddest of all a dual slot 1 dell board that takes RDRAM 1. all tempting, especially as you should still be able to put 1ghz slot 1 p3 100mhz chips in them if you can find them... and they should be much cheaper than the dual socket370 boards due to percieved demand / value. (and there's an article here about getting p3-1.4ghz cpus' to work in slot 1 boards.)

This CPU seems cheap: 800mhz P3 slot 1 100mhz fsb around 1 could be dead though. slot 1 933mhz VERY expensive 56!. so there's still people out there with slot1 systems that want to upgrade! 56 would nearly buy you a new ATX motherboard (24) and a duron 1.6ghz (33) - total: 57 from ebuyer.com!! another p3-933 slot 1 could be dead very cheap. (in fact this guy's got a huge number of potentially dead cpus wonder where he gets them from!.)

itunes 4.1 is now available for windows 2000 and XP. Requires 128 MB RAM minimum. Requires quicktime 6.4. A 19.1meg download. Yes it is just winamp with aac encode decode, direct to cd burning.. and direct purchase and download of mp3s for people living in the states.. but I'm sure you've seen that sort of thing before.
Oh and panther will be out soon. With so many swooshy features, if it doesn't make you sea-sick, nothing will..
It might also be a 15% faster operating system. (at doing stuff like database queries), which is nice.
looking at dual cpu motherboards on ebay dual slot 1 inc 2x 350mhz P2 looks the cheapest, then there's 5 socket 370 (auction) motherboards (buy now 62), another dual socket 370 with celeron 400 (auction), intel (auction), auction (nearly finished) and the weirdest of all is this dual 386 motherboard! - my question though is - can you use socket 370 chips in slot 1 motherboards if you use adapter(s)? and why can't people spell "dual"? why do people spell it as "duel"? Dual AMD motherboards seem more expensive, especially as I may be able to get P3 socket 370 chips for free...
o Western Digital lower retail warranty to 1year - OEM Special Edition are still 3yr warranty. Samsung however, have 3year warranty on all of their drives, and they are Very quiet, and Very fast.
o 8-way Power 5 thing with 144mb cache shown here.
