New MacBook

Available in black or white. Seems to replace the ibook. Link. 13" widescreen, dual core. From $1099/£749 (roughly more than double a basic (single core) Dell Inspiron 1300 from £349).

At one level, these machines are similar in price to what you'd be paying for dual core machines made by dell with the same features and note high resolution (but small) screens, esp if you consider integrated webcam a feature.
OnTheOtherHand, it used to be that the iBook was the lower power version to a large degree - ie; the least cost machine with important ports removed, on a slow bus. And here they've given a fairly big speed bump.
OnTheOtherHand, the people at work are impressed that apple are selling a laptop for well less than a grand.

yeah i suppose the cheapest ibooks i've seen were around £699 - so £750 for a dual core is quite good considering it's from apple. but again, the price premium remains, and apple don't really offer a student friendly laptop. (or a josh's wallet friendly laptop either).
