CDs (MP3s) / TV (Films/Videos/Downloads): What are your views on all this? Whilst lending a DVD/CD of a film or music is completely legal (law-wise), where do you stand on copying CDs / MP3s / downloading TV off the internet / borrowing a dodgy copy of a film for one time watching etc? And what about allofmp3.com - currently (russian/international) law seems to say it's legal...?

"You could argue that if it's from the BBC, that as a TV licence payer it's legitimate to have a copy." No its not :> The BBC or whoever made the program OWN the program. Its up to them how they make money off it. They can sell it to 3rd world countries like New Zealand to show on TV They can publish it on DVD They could put it up on the internet for down load. But until they do they copies you have are dogy :) morally and legaly Yeah I couldn't buy it so I stole it isnt going to work :>

The TV people let you record tv for 'time lapse' viewing purposes i think letting you keep a recording for 3 months - those hard drive based tv recorders are legal, so it is definitely ok to record TV - but this is all from your own home, making a video 100 times and giving that to all your mates (which is what they do when they upload them to the internet) is a completely different thing...

ooh apparently "tape-trading" is legal according to this document (same link) - but this is talking about 1 tape (recorded from tv) being lent to a mate, and that mate lending you a tape from tv - so it's on a much much smaller scale than tv recorded and put on the internet... but I guess the 'time-shifting' rules should still apply, if you have a tv license (for UK TV), and want UK TV, then downloading it from the internet is very much like borrowing the tape from a friend, just more convienient - and presumably in countries that don't have tv licenses - can you then download their tv? (similar to getting an american friend to send you a tape of your favourite program). That article, linked to, also says that collecting videos of TV is okay...
