More than 3GB of RAM a waste of time...

Apparently having more than 3GB of RAM is a complete waste of time (unless you're running a 64bit OS and 64bit applications!)... and worse still if you do have more than 3gb of RAM, and a whopping 512mb gfx card, then the gfx card will use up 512mb of your ram! Scary unpleasant stuff*

* especially for someone like me who has bought extra ram to make his new PC have 4gb in total!

Interesting article - cheers J.W. Shame about your 4gb, mind. Still, let's be honest - Windows isn't really going to go like a rocket whatever you do is it?

Although - I wonder if it's possible to use virtual memory and a memory-based hard-drive to achieve something approximating >3gb memory. It's only a wondering of course - might not do anything useful.

With Windows Vista, you can put in a USB pen drive (say 1gb, 2gb, etc) and then right click on it, and there's an option that says something like "Use this device as additional memory" - and Windows Vista will use it, so you have more "physical" RAM available to windows! Pretty cleaver stuff - dunno how quick it is though.
