just some stuff off the interfish

I read a review of hitchikers guide.. and it sounds like maybe something important was missed out.. so, if you have read the book, can you think of three things that should definitely be in The HHGTTG? like Towels, the cupcake, and a special pair of sunglasses?
Meanwhile, Chris Ecclestone didn't quit Dr Who because of the gruelling shedule more details, he always only intended to do one series.
Aparently Dell don't do AMD (based systems). Which sounds silly.
Intel have shipped/'released'/announced dual core processors, and Dell promise to sell systems with them for only £1600, which seems quite cheap really.
I think we're waking up to the idea that we can't go much faster with Ghz at the moment, but we can go parallel / more efficient / do more with each clock.
Just to be unfair and AMD 64 biased, (and this might be an elaborate hoax but..) there's this guy with an 'venice' core 90nm AMD which will overclock from 2.0 ghz to 2.8ghz, which means AMD have got some good people working on making processors go fast (and not too hot), maybe VIA should get their help.
A guy got sent to jail for
nine years for 'Using fake internet addresses to send mass email ads'. How many years would you get for:
A) writing a virus
B) hacking into a companys' computers

And I guess the reason dell don't do anything other than Intel is possibly because they 'only' sell one kind of desktop/workstation, their online catalogue is confusing enough as it is, and like if you're spending 500 quid on a computer, you just want to think you're getting the best. If you want to spend more there are plenty of other questions that you need to answer without the difficult one of '3.6ghz Xeon or 3400 AMD'. I guess you just want to feel like you chose the best single processor system you can get. And for dual processor systems, Dell don't want to have to understand how to put together more than one kind of computer. XP not fit in Intel mp motherboard. Does not compute.
So the rambling answer is 'How many people can say with certainty that the top XP system will be better than the top AMD system, and just as reliable, and can they justify that to their boss, who probably doesn't care (ie; will spend more if necessary to get the most well supported reliable system) about the price difference'
ie; is any performance difference that great that you would choose AMD, and is there a big enough market that thinks the same.
