The Amiga/Atari/Acorn situation was completely different in my opinion - they were all multimedia computers for not a lot of money - suddenly PCs got better (capable of multimedia), and affordable, the Apple situation is unique - Apple survived the period where Amiga/Atari/Acorn died...
