If you're running AVG 7.something and not 7.5 - then you might get messages saying "this program is going to run out, please buy me!"* - when in actual fact, all you need to do is download the newer free version 7.5 from here and do a manual install (repair installation).

This is not actually correct. The message does not say "please buy me". It actually says that Version 7.1 is expiring. Users will have to upgrade to Version 7.5 this will require downloading the new version and a re installation.
Version 7.5 has more advanced functionality and will also works with Microsoft Vista.
There is both a paid version of Ver 7.5 as well as the watered down free version.
The message that comes up provides a link to both of these versions, however the paid one is more prominent. I hope this clears up this misconception.
The pop up message takes you to a page where you can buy the AVG version that you have to pay for. The most logical thing to do for people who are using the free version, would be to take them straight to the free version page, as linked to above. :) Josh
and whilst it does have small text at the bottom saying: "free options here" (paraphrased) - the free options page is all about the new professional edition with again, a small link to the free one.
