Malware attacks IE users via pop-ups | The Register might be worth sticking to firefox for now...?

tiger (10.4), the latest os from mac, is coming in 2005. This article is a kind of taster/preview... if you go to the apple website, they've got some info about it too.
Oh and apple have a huge new 30 inch display (2569pound), which requires a 450pound grafic card to use it. Available in Grey or erm gray. yup. 2500 pound for the computer. 3000 pound for a monitor. there must be some very rich people out there.
So tiger: another "new" way to find files, and an alternative way to get desk accessories (taskbar temperature style readouts) displayed.
And it sounds like they're releasing it in the new year, which I always thought was Apple's biggest problem - all the new stuff comes out after you've bought your christmas presents.

But the UK is being flooded with other fake goods, including teabags. It's a crime that stabs at the heart of British society and costs billions." ""The ante has been upped, big time," she says. "It's in about the last five years or so that the volume of goods flooding the market has doubled - at least doubled - in terms of quantity and also in terms of range of the goods that are being faked."" - how often are people quoted as saying "big time"?

crap research + bbc news website = another crappie article with re-used old images! quote:
"Junk e-mails are driving computer users mad" - "Viagra offers and miracle diets crowd our inboxes" - "Six days are wasted battling with spam and three more days are lost due to viruses." right - so we spend 6 days dealing with spam and only 3 dealing with viruses. riiiight. "a third of people would be prepared to make a drastic lifestyle change, such as exercising five times a week, if it meant an end to spam." wtf!? what kind of questions were on there, "what would you be prepared to do to get rid of spam: a) excersice 5 times a week, b) have a shower on mondays c)kill your parents" - like HELLO!! what has excersice got to do with spam!!!??

Here's a pic of Heather, Susan, Me and Dave (Susan's fiance) taken last week at "Pub in the Park" (put here by bloggerbot/hello/ using the new free unlimited blogger image hosting thing) Posted by Hello
I have a plan: Buy a cheap 2mp digital camera (between £20 - £40 ebay/morgan computers/etc eg this) ideally small, with flash. Setup a website (perhaps a blog?) where people can post their pictures taken with said camera. Camera is posted to people around the world, they have it for a week, take X amount of pics, and upload 5 of their best pictures to website (as pic above), then post it to next person in line. This would only work if people didn't decide to steal the camera - to combat this, perhaps I could use a paypal account to collect deposit (perhaps £5/£10) which is refunded once the camera has gone to the next person? The address list (so to speak), could be centrally managed by me. So it would go like this:

1. Email me, with your address. (and put deposit in my paypal account)
2. I'll invite you to join the blogger
3. (once joined) Someone will post camera to you.
4. You use for a week, upload 5 of your favourite pictures to website
5. Let me know you're done, and I'll email you the address of the next person.
6. You post the camera to the next person (when they confirm they have it, I will refund paypal deposit)

alternatively, they don't post their pictures, but they could just email the pictures (With text) to my email account? I could also mark the camera with something like "If found, return to (web address)".

GetDataBack - Data Recovery Software for all Windows File Systems if you ever accidentally format your drive completely, or even format a FAT32 drive with NTFS - then use this program to get important files and documents back. It is seriously awesome - and only $69. Data recovery companies would charge you at least £1000 to do the same thing!
Amazon.co.uk: Pentax Optio 33LF Digital Camera [3MP 3xOptical] £99 quite a good deal. (it's got a swivel screen etc). Micro Direct Ltd offer an 8x DVD +/- writer for £46 inc vat! (anyone know what speed they do CDRs?)
Programming languages:
their history
microsoft's changing programming philosophies
which programming language
- the shootout (where they compare eg; boring old C with every other language under the sun) I thought was quite interesting, because although I thought C was quite difficult to write, I hadn't realised just how much more wordy it needs to be to get the job done. Looking at the different languages, you'd choose the one that makes most sense in the fewest number of lines.. maybe?? Anyway its all interesting .. I thought C++ code would have been way more readable.

UK personal debt hits 1 trillion pounds. what!!! staffordshire, bbc. herald, financial times
I thought they were talking rubbish. but no. If we each had 17 pound of debt, the combined debt would be 17x60million = 1020 million.
A trillion is 1000 times as much. so we each have 17,000 pound of debt.
1. Some banks are owed a heap of money by us.
2. Some of those people aren't ever going to pay it back. How do bankrupt people re-start their lives?? Just wondering?
3. the bbc article says that that's bigger than the combined debt of Africa, Asia, and other countries.
quote from somehwere else: In 1999, developing country debt (not counting the former Eastern Bloc) was placed by the World Bank at $2,060 billion, less than 6 percent of total world debt ($37,000 billion). ... the national debt of the United States is $5,000 billion, U.S. household debt is $6,000 billion, and the national debt of Japan at $ 2,000 billion. In contrast, the total debt of the 41 HIPC countries is approximately $200 billion (less than one percent of world debt). It is difficult to imagine how canceling the $200 billion owed by the HIPC would seriously affect the market that Mr. Wolfensohn is so worried about.
Wow. is the rest of the world poor or what? man..
ok what we need to do is to redistribute our personal debt onto those 'poorer' people that have lower debt. And then give them greater access to credit cards. Seriously, the rest of the world should be donating money to us.

the bbc news site seems to be taking the oil price thing seriously... basically although the oil might last another 50 years (so within my lifetime), we will have to change over to alternate style transportation, you know, electric or bio fuel cars.. and its possible that this could happen alot sooner than you expect because the price of fuel will skyrocket now that there isn't enough to go round all the chinese to meet demand.
